Food Grade Bicarbonate of Soda
Sodium Bicarbonate or Bicarbonate of Soda, often commonly referred to as Baking Soda is one of the best and most versatile, natural products to use in DIY cleaning, deodorizing and personal care products.
Kitchen Uses
- As a fruit and vegetable scrub to remove pesticide residues and dirt. Simply sprinkle on a wet cloth or brush, scrub gently, and rinse.
- To freshen up your refrigerator, place an open container of bicarbonate of soda inside to neutralize odors effectively.
Bathroom Uses:
- As a gentle abrasive for cleaning bathroom tiles and shower curtains.
Personal Care:
- Mixed with water to form a paste for relieving sunburn or mild burns (with a disclaimer to consult a healthcare provider for serious burns).
General Cleaning:
- To clean silverware, by making a paste of three parts bicarbonate of soda to one part water, applying to the silver, rinsing, and drying for a brilliant shine.
- As a weed killer on walkways and driveways by sprinkling it directly on the weeds growing in the cracks (though mentioning to use sparingly as it can affect soil pH).
Pet Care:
- Mixed into cat litter as a deodorizer to extend the freshness between changes.
Laundry:
- To brighten colors and whites, add half a cup to the laundry wash cycle.
Miscellaneous:
- As a fire extinguisher for small grease fires in the kitchen. It can be thrown directly onto the base of the flame to extinguish it (however, this should be advised with caution and to always prioritize safety and call emergency services if needed).
